While it isn’t exactly the news we were all hoping for, “Yellowstone” fans now have some clarity as to when we expect the new season to roll out.

The Paramount Network hit series “Yellowstone” will premiere its fourth and latest season this fall. The news came as a shock to fans of the show who were expecting a summer premiere for the new season. All three previous installments of “Yellowstone” began in the early summer and there was reason to believe season four would too. Instead, we now know that the new season will begin around the same time that leaves on trees begin changing. There is still no official date on when season four will begin, but many are pointing to the month of November as a probably time frame. November is several months away meaning “Yellowstone” fans will have to continue with patience. In the meantime, you can always count on Outsider for quality “Yellowstone” discussion topics.

The big question on the minds of every “Yellowstone” fan is why are the show’s producers waiting until the fall. Filming supposedly wrapped up earlier this year, although a few extra filming days were needed for additional scenes and reshoots. There are plenty of reasons why an autumn start makes sense for the modern western drama series. According to a TV Insider report, the holdup could be based on a streamings rights battle.

‘Yellowstone’ Returns This Fall

“Yellowstone” has aired on the Paramount Network, which is owned by ViacomCBS, for its first three seasons. The first three seasons are also available for streaming on Peacock, NBC Universal’s streaming service. The report states a brewing streaming rights battle between Peacock and Paramount Plus could be the reason for the delay. According to Cnet, networks like Paramount can make top dollar by licensing their content streaming rights to other platforms, like Peacock, instead of their own.

It was previously believed that the new season of “Yellowstone” was pegged to premiere in June. Many had Father’s Day, which fell on June 20 this year, as a day to mark on the calendar. All three previous seasons premiered on the day to celebrate dad and there was optimism that season four would follow suit. But it didn’t come to pass as the calendar recently rolled from June to July.

Others believed “Yellowstone” delayed the premiere in order to avoid direct competition with the Summer Olympics. This notion has fans pointing to a late summer arrival for season four with the games concluding on August 8.

We now know that the new season of “Yellowstone” will premiere this fall and that is reason to be excited. The wait has gone a little longer than most of us expected but the end result will be totally worth it.
