Aaron Rodgers has spent the last week stirring up quite the drama for the NFL amidst the draft.
Now, fans are starting to respond to the controversy. Recently, Rodgers has said that he is not interested in returning to the Green Bay Packers as their quarterback.
Rodgers has made his frustration with the team clear throughout the offseason. According to ESPN, the team president, Mark Murphy, the general manager, Brian Gutekunst, and the head coach, Matt LaFleur, all have flown out to talk with Rodgers amidst his controversial statements.
Neither Rodgers nor the Packers are willing to budge so far on their stance, either. That is, the team is saying they are not willing to trade him and Rodgers is not interested in playing for them. Now a stand-off of sorts is well underway.
It seems like some Milwaukee Brewers fans have made their stance on the situation pretty clear. According to the New York Post, Aaron Rodgers appeared on the video board in his commercial for Bergstrom Autos.
Normally, the longtime Packers quarterback is considered a state hero in Wisconsin. Amongst his disagreements with the team, Rodgers isn’t getting that same level of Wisconsin love. Rodgers is a nine-time Pro Bowler. He has also led the team to one Super Bowl victory and all the way to the NFC Championships this year.
As of now, Rodgers continues to say he has no plans on returning. He also has suggested he will return only if the team fires Brian Gutekunst, the general manager of the team. He has reportedly been upset since the Packers chose Jordan Love, another quarterback, as their first-round pick during the 2020 NFL Draft. Rodgers believed that the team needed more offensive strength instead.
Aaron Rodgers Drama Draws Attention
It’s not only Brewers fans lashing out at the quarterback. Legendary quarterback, Terry Bradshaw, said, “him being that upset shows me just how weak he is.” He went on to say, “Probably he should just retire and go do Jeopardy!” That’s the way I look at it,” in a recent interview on WFAN’s “Moose and Maggie” show.
Some “Jeopardy!” fans want to believe that this all may be a part of Rodgers trying to become the permanent host of the show. However, the executive producer, Mike Richards, has said that the show doesn’t even have finalists for the position yet.
Even Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, chimed in on social media subtly to say, “Well I see draft weekend is going to be pretty interesting…”
Rodgers’ talk of trading has drawn attention from other NFL teams as well. The 49ers have reportedly called the Packers inquiring about a trade for the quarterback. There have been several others, however, the Packers haven’t revealed the names of those teams. The Packers remain clear that there is no option of a trade remotely on the table. There is also no change to Rodgers’ contract, which would make it difficult to trade him, to begin with.
