Back in November, NBA star DeMar DeRozan and his family had quite the scare when an intruder entered their home before the player chased him out.
The intruder broke into DeRozan’s Los Angeles home on Nov. 19. During the break-in, the man supposedly went upstairs to a play area where he ran into one of DeRozan’s children playing.
According to a report by TMZ Sports, the 6’6″, 220-pound DeRozan overheard a commotion in the house. As he investigated the disturbance, he quickly realized it came from upstairs and rushed towards the play area. Upon entering the room, Derozan came face-to-face with the intruder before he “chased the man out of his house.”
Subsequently, the man ran away from the area. However, the intruder returned shortly after to the San Antonio Spurs player’s gated community, according to police. As the man tried to re-enter DeRozan’s neighborhood, community security stopped the intruder during his second attempt. In addition, security called the police who took the man in for questioning.
Intruder Says He Meant To Break Into Kylie Jenner’s Home
Following the man’s arrest, more details on the intruder’s true motives came to light. Allegedly, the man who broke into DeRozan’s home made a mistake. In fact, the intruder admitted to law enforcement officials that he was trying to break into celebrity Kylie Jenner’s home instead.
The man has been arrested and officially charged with one count of felony burglary. In addition, the intruder has been slapped with a restraining order, which prohibits him from coming close to DeRozan or Jenner’s homes.
As for DeRozan and his family, the four-time NBA All-Star says that “everything is good” following the break-in. He says his family is fine after what could have been an even worse situation. On Saturday, DeRozan downplayed the incident while speaking with reporters. He said he’s dealt with much worse growing up in rough neighborhoods.
“I grew up in Compton, California. I’ve been through worse,” DeRozan explained.
