Jared Goff has finally made a public comment regarding the Los Angeles Rams trading him to the Detroit Lions.
The former Rams quarterback is now speaking out about his trade to the Detroit Lions by the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams chose Matthew Stafford to take Goff’s place on the team.
Jared Goff Addresses His Trade by The Los Angeles Rams
Needless to say, Goff has some mixed feelings towards the Rams. Goff’s reaction is understandable seeing his involvement in some big moments for the team. He was one of the first picks to join the Rams in 2016, made the Pro Bowl twice, and signed a $134 million extension. Most importantly, he led the Rams to the Super Bowl for the first time in 17 years.
“It’s disappointing and unfortunate the way it ended, but there were so many great times and so many great wins, so many great memories in practice, the locker room, in meetings. That stuff will last me forever.”
The Quarterback Shows Gratitude to L.A. and the Rams
The news of the trade is recent, but Goff is now publicly addressing the major change. He received the news on Saturday night. Four days later, he took to Twitter to express gratitude to the Rams, players, fans, and the entire city of Los Angeles. The message sounds positive and hopeful for the future.
“I really enjoyed my time here,” says Goff. “I want to leave this on a positive note. Obviously, the ending wasn’t favorable and wasn’t fun. But them drafting me No. 1 overall and bringing me to a city that hasn’t had a football team in a long time, being a part of that rebuild after 2016, being able to help bring L.A. football back to prominence, all that stuff I take extreme pride in. It’s something that I’ll always remember.”
Some Questions Still Need Answers
Two weeks after the team lost the opportunity to be in the playoffs, the Rams head coach Sean McVay calls Goff to inform him of the trade.
“There’s still some conversations to be had,” he says. “Those will shed some light, obviously, and I’ll be able to understand things a little bit more. But at today’s given time, I want my message to be a thankful one to the city of L.A. and the Kroenke family [who owns the team], and to the Rams organization for my time with them.”
The fact he made the least amount of touchdowns since his first year with the team could be an issue. There have also been many reports of a large amount of tension between Jared and the Rams head coach.
“Ultimately, they wanted to go in a different direction,” says Goff. “As the quarterback, as the guy that’s at arguably the most important position on the field, if you’re in a place that you’re not wanted and they want to move on from you, the feeling’s mutual.”
“You don’t want to be in the wrong place. It became increasingly clear that was the case. [The trade] is something that I’m hopeful is going to be so good for my career,” he continues.
Goff Looks Toward the Future with the Detroit Lions
He admits he was very upset upon hearing the news, but once talking to the Lions’ team, he began to feel much more hopeful and excited.
“As time has gone on over the last few days, and even the end of that night, it becomes a positive and you start to feel really good about yourself again,” he says. “You start to feel, I don’t want to say relief is the word, but you start to feel happy, grateful, ready for a new opportunity. That’s the biggest feeling that I was overcome with that night, and even in the days following.”
The 26-year-old should still have a long career ahead of him, and his hope in the future with the Detroit Lions is a good sign of continued success.
