Johnny Damon had his DUI charge become a very public spectacle in February. However, now officials have decided to drop the DUI charge for the former baseball star. For many people, this will be a surprise as his blood alcohol content was roughly four times the legal driving limit.

Back in February, Damon and his wife, Michelle, were pulled over near their house in Windermere, Florida. Damon was driving home from meeting with his tax guy a little after 1 a.m. Both he and his wife appeared to be incredibly drunk. According to the report, the former baseball superstar blew a 0.30, well above the legal 0.08 limit.

After the incident, the video of the arrest was released to the public. During the video, Damon openly admitted that he had been drinking before he drove. The police said that during the arrest, both Johnny and Michelle got physical with the officers.

During the arrest, the baseball player brought up his political views to the police officers. Specifically, he talked about his support of President Donald Trump. “I know people are trying to target me because I’m a Trump supporter.”

The end result of the incident was that Johnny Damon was charged with a DUI. Consequently, he was facing up to 9 months in jail if he was found guilty.

Johnny Damon Entered Into a Plea Arraignment Program to Avoid a DUI Conviction

Even though it seemed like a straightforward conviction for the court to make, it didn’t turn out that way. Prosecutors in his case offered up a no-brainer deal for the former MLB player. Along with paying a substantial fine, he will be doing a certain amount of community service.

At this time, it isn’t known exactly how many hours of community service that was agreed upon, but it is likely a substantial amount. The fine will be directed toward charity which is a result of the pre-trial diversion program.

The deal that Johnny Damon made stipulated that if he completes the community service and pays the set amount, the DUI charge will be dropped.

Johnny Damon’s wife, Michelle, is facing a different case against her. Because of her actions during the arrest, her charges are much more intense. Ultimately, she was charged with two felonies during the incident. The charges were for battering the police officers. If she is convicted, she could be facing multiple years in prison.

Michelle Damon pled not guilty to the charges. However, unlike her superstar husband, her case is proceeding through the court system, and she will likely have to stand trial.
