Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith was hot in the first half against Ohio State on Monday night. He got the attention of LeBron James.
Smith had 12 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns as the Alabama Crimson Tide took at 35-17 halftime lead over the Buckeyes. To put his first-half play into perspective, Ohio State’s total offensive output was 191 yards and two touchdowns.
James, who is one of Ohio’s native sons, was watching like most of America and shared his reactions on Twitter.
He writes in one of them, “DeVonte Smith is one of the best pure receivers I’ve ever watched! Like a mix between Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. Man he’s good!”
James had another observation just minutes after that one regarding Smith’s play.
Mind you, those were the Heisman Trophy winner’s numbers at halftime. Smith still had a half to add to those numbers before heading off into the NFL Draft sunset.
LeBron James Might Be Buying Atlanta Dream WNBA Team
Meanwhile, LeBron James recently tweeted he would be interested in buying the WNBA team co-owned by soon-to-be-former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler. And at least one other NBA star seems interested in the deal.
The four-time NBA champion tweeted he was interested in creating an ownership group to purchase the Atlanta Dream. Loeffler has co-owned the team with Mary Brock since 2011, although it has been a tumultuous relationship between the Republican senator, the league, and its players.
James’ tweet also got thousands of replies. Many wealthy celebrities replied they would like to join LeBron James in his efforts, though it’s unclear how serious James is about purchasing the team.
Former NBA player-turned-social media star Rex Chapman replied that he was in. Former University of Georgia star and NFL safety Champ Bailey said he was interested. NBA all-star Carmelo Anthony replied to LeBron James “let’s talk bro!”
Loeffler hasn’t discussed selling her stake in the team. Although the WNBA could compel her to do so, the league said in July it wasn’t planning on it.
