On Sunday, March 28, Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the Truck Series dirt track race for NASCAR. The race was incredible for everyone. Martin Truex Jr. dominated to come away with the win. However, a highlight of the race for fans, at least, was a crash between John Hunter Nemechek and Matt Crafton.
The two NASCAR truck drivers collided, and their frustrations spilled over afterward. In the garage after the race, the two drivers confronted one another.
Nemechek was taken out of the race after he went spinning early on in Stage 2 of the race. But, he was sent into the spin after he was hit by Crafton. While Nemechek was in the pit lane, he was hit again by Derek Kraus. Crafton went on to finish the race and place 14, but Nemechek did not finish.
Immediately following the collision, the two got into it with their teams on the radio. Right before the crash, Nemechek was in fifth place in the NASCAR race, so there was certainly a good reason to be upset.
NASCAR Drivers Nemechek and Crafton Get Into It at Bristol
Once Nemechek got out of his No. 4 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota, he walked towards the other NASCAR trucks. As Crafton drove by him, Nemechek gave him an incredibly sarcastic round of applause.
On the radio, Crafton let his team know how disgusted he was with the clapping. He chose his words quickly, filling his statement with expletives.
“Better keep the crew chief (of Nemechek) under [expletive] order before I punch him in his [expletive] throat. Don’t you ever [expletive] stare at me like that.”
But that wasn’t the end of their feud on Sunday. Once Nemechek got out of the NASCAR medical center, he began taking shots at Crafton and Kraus’ teams. He shared his displeasure in an interview.
“I don’t know. Matt [Crafton] just flat ran over me. That one will be in the memory bank. We were fine. Didn’t hit anything, and then there toward the end of that whole deal, the 19 (Kraus) … I guess he and his spotter both need a pair of glasses. I’ll have those for him at Richmond [Raceway].”
After the race ended, things began escalating even further. In the garage, the teams of the two NASCAR drivers got into it again.
