On Wednesday, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry made a bold statement when he surprisingly claimed that someone else is the best running back in the NFL.
Many NFL fans would consider Henry to be at the top of the league when it comes to running backs. In fact, “King Henry” did not earn his nickname by playing second fiddle to anyone. Other premier NFL running backs include the Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey and the New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara.
However, the humble Titans star thinks the Minnesota Vikings‘ running back Dalvin Cook is currently the best in the NFL. When speaking about Cook, Henry stated “He’s the best back in the league…”
As ESPN’s official Twitter account said, that’s “Big time praise from one of the NFL’s finest.”
During Henry’s interview with the media on Wednesday, he heaped praise on the Vikings’ running back. The pair are neck and neck in the race for the NFL’s leader in rushing yards; Henry has 1,079 rushing yards to Cook’s 1,069 rushing yards.
“Dalvin Cook is having a phenomenal season,” Henry said of his fellow running back. “Right now, I would say he’s the best back in football. Just week after week, always dominating. Always having a great game. Running the ball. Catching the ball. Very explosive.”
“I love watching him run on film,” Henry continued. “He is doing a great job this year. That guy’s just been incredible the whole year. He runs hard, runs through tackles, makes guys miss. He’s just been balling.”
Derrick Henry’s Game-Winning TD Proves His Worth
Although Derrick Henry’s statement on Cook is extremely humble, it’s hard to deny how special he is as a player as well. Any coach would love Henry on their team, especially with his team-first attitude.
Only a few days ago, Henry proved his worth when he ended overtime with a long touchdown run to beat the Baltimore Ravens.
On Sunday, the Titans-Ravens game went to overtime tied 24-24 at the end of the fourth quarter. While on the Ravens’ 29-yard line, “King Henry” went to work.
The 6’3″, 238-pound running back barreled his way through the heart of the Ravens defense. Henry ran left through his offensive line before cutting back to the right through multiple defenders. Then he took off with a clear path to the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
The Titans official Twitter account posted a clip of Henry’s game-winner. Tennessee knows they have one of the best running backs in the league and made sure fans knew it with their tweet.
“PUT THE CROWN ON HIM,” the Titans wrote on their post.
