After two years of under-performing, the Washington Football Team has finally cut Dwayne Haskins. While sitting in on the Pat McAfee Show, Ian Rapoport received a phone call with the news, causing an abrupt exit to his interview. Given the circumstances, Pat McAfee and his co-hosts knew the news must have been big. Someone in the NFL just lost their job.

“I gotta go. I gotta go,” Rapoport said in a hurry. That’s when they knew the news was about to be big.

After Ian Rapoport’s shocking exit, the hosts were left wondering “what in f*** just happened,” as McAfee put it. They picked up on it immediately as one of them said “someone’s getting fired,” almost as soon as he hung up.

The guesses ranged from Adam Gase at the New York Jets to Matt Nagy for the Chicago Bears. They even consider Mitch Trubisky and a contract extension before landing on Dwayne Haskins.

Ian Rapoport Drops the News

Luckily they did not have to wait too long to find out. Ian Rapoport dropped the news this morning, saying “Washington has released QB Dwayne Haskins, per me and @TomPelissero,” on Twitter at 11:42. It did not take long for that news to spread given Rapoport’s wide audience.

Judging by the Tweet, it seems that Tom Pelissero may have caused that abrupt exit. As one of the hosts points out, there aren’t many people that Ian Rapoport would end an interview to talk to. The phone call must be extremely important to grab his attention.

The Washington Football Team and Dwayne Haskins Jr.

The Washington Football Team selected Dwayne Haskins Jr., the quarterback out of Ohio State University, with the fifteenth pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. He did not start immediately in Washington but sat under quarterback, Case Keenum.

However, after Keenum left the game with a concussion in week 8 of the 2019 season, Haskins took the reigns of the offense. He did not produce a whole lot more than Keenum in his three-game tenure before injuring his ankle.

His performance issues continued into the 2020 season. This, alongside his lack of work ethic, resulted in the coaches benching him in week five for Kyle Allen. His season was littered with poor decision making and underperformance, even after he was given a second chance to start after Alex Smith injured his leg.

The final nail in the coffin for Haskins happened when he attended a strip club without a mask. After a loss to the Seattle Seahawks, someone photographed Dwayne Haskins Jr. deliberately breaking the COVID-19 protocols. Even after this mistake, the Football Team coaches gave him the start yesterday. However, he was benched for poor performance and replaced by Taylor Heinicke.
