Less than 24 hours following Georgia Bulldogs’ Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint’s absolutely brutal ankle injury, the NFL witnesses an ankle injury of its own. Kyle Allen suffered a gruesome ankle injury during the Washington Football Team’s Week 9 game against the New York Giants.

The injury occurred towards the end of the first quarter and reactions of shock immediately flooded Twitter. Watch, if you have the stomach for it:

Kyle Allen’s leg injury happened during a sack on a first down. He left the game completing 5 of 7 passes for a total of 62 yards, CBS Sports reports.

Alex Smith came in to replace the starting quarterback. Interestingly enough, Smith suffered a similar tragic leg injury in 2018. During the third quarter of the Washington Redskins-Houston Texans Week 11 game in 2018, he suffered a compound fracture.

The injury was extremely serious and even developed an infection, causing him to be septic. ESPN details the extremely graphic nature of the injury, as well as his road to returning to the field.

Alex Smith shocked NFL fans with his miraculous recovery and return to NFL in early October 2020. Just weeks after his return to the sport, he not only watched a teammate suffer a similar traumatic experience, but had to take his place on the field. The upsetting irony of the situation is undeniably impossible to ignore.

Soon after Kyle Allen was escorted off the field, the team’s Twitter account shared a tweet sending prayers for a speedy recovery.
